Connections

I so enjoy reading in the Old Testament, especially the words spoken by the Lord.  Read these verses and think about if they sound familiar:

Exodus 19:10-11, “And the LORD said to Moses, "Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. Have them wash their clothes and be ready by the third day, because on that day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.”

Well, I’m sure you get the point.  The New Testament verse that popped into my mind is from Luke where Jesus is being warned of Herod’s desire to kill Him:

Luke 13:32-33, “He replied, "Go tell that fox, 'I will drive out demons and heal people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.'  In any case, I must keep going today and tomorrow and the next day—for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem!”

When I was taking education courses out at EWU, one thing they taught us was that the best way to help children retain what they’re learning is by having them connect it to something they already know.  This is the reason your children have units on butterflies or the Titanic.  Teachers use one theme to connect reading, writing, spelling, math, science, and history all together.  Taking the same approach to the Bible will also help you retain information.  I’d love to hear connections you make while reading and will pass along some more of mine throughout the year.
