AdventureLand Safety Policies and Guidelines

We follow strict safety guidelines to protect every child and every volunteer.  Each level of child education in AdventureLand is subject to supervision and evaluation.  We dismiss volunteers who fail to follow our policies and guidelines.

Volunteer Staff

All volunteers are screened through the WSP database, an ICFG nationwide database, and an application process.  AdventureLand staff review and approve applications and place volunteers.  Once in the classroom all volunteers wear green lanyards to indicate their paperwork had been completed and reviewed.  In our infants classes all volunteers are 18 years or older.  And volunteers who teach Bible lessons are trained and approved by AdventureLand staff.

We also include student apprentices as volunteers.  Each apprentice is 12-15 years old.  They observe class and model good behavior.  Sometimes they assist in lessons.  When an apprentice turns 15 they are allowed to pick up children.

Safety Guidelines

No volunteer is ever alone with a child at any time.

Classrooms open only if two or more adults are present.

We maintain low child to adult ratios.  When necessary we close classrooms to preserve low and safe ratios.  These ratios change as your child grows.  In the infants class we keep a ratio of 2:1, walkers 3:1, two-year-olds 5:1, three-year-olds through first grade 8:1. and second through fifth grade 10:1.

Restroom Policies

No male volunteers change diapers.  Females must be 18 or older.  They wear protective gloves for diaper changes.

In Preschool, if child need restroom assistance the door is left ajar.

Kindergarten classes visit the main upstairs restroom in gender groups at the beginning of class.  An adult of the same gender supervises.  We always check that the restroom is
