More about SOHI

More information about our partnership with Spring of Hope International:

College educated in the U.S., David Opap returned to his village of Adiedo, Kenya in 2000.  He found the village of his youth, forever changed.  HIV/AIDS had infected many people and the people of his village lacked access to basic health care, medication or information about diseases.  There were an abundant amount of widows and orphans. People of a productive age were dying of simple, treatable diseases.  The Adiedo community existed without clean water and David’s own mother died from a simple, yet water related disease.  This propelled David into action.  He returned to the United States committed to finding ways to repair his beloved village of Adiedo.  In 2004, David formed Spring of Hope International, a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization aimed at making Adiedo village a better place to live.  Today, David has a vision for building a medical clinic, providing additional clean water sources and promoting education and skills training in Adiedo, Kenya.

With the partnership with Life Center, and a generous offering from the church, Life Center was able to raise enough funds to support two wells in Adiedo.  Short-term missions teams have traveled to Kenya in May and October of 2010, as well as October of 2011.  The first well was completed in 2009 when Pastor Joe Wittwer was in Adiedo with a Spring of Hope International and Life Center staff team.

In October 2011, the Life Center team returned from a successful fact finding trip.  They focused their time with the chief of Adiedo Village; worked with USAID (the agency for international development ) in Nairobi on food issues; visited schools, especially the poorest school in the area that is being taught by volunteers.  They discussed ways to improve the child sponsorship program and worked on water and agriculture issues.

More trips are in the works, so stay tuned!
