Be a Blessing
Scripture: Genesis 12-14, Luke 5
Genesis 12:2-3 I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.
Observation:
At the very beginning, at Abram’s call, God makes it clear that His plan is bigger than Abram—God is at work to redeem everyone, to bless “all the families on earth.” God will bless Abram, but it is not to stop there. He blesses Abram to be a blessing to others, ultimately to the whole world. One commentary said that the phrase “you will be a blessing to others” is actually a command in the Hebrew: “be a blessing to others.”
Application:
I believe that God wants me to be a blessing to others, God wants us as Christians to be a blessing to others. The church (believers in Jesus) ought to be the biggest blessing in the world. This happens first by sharing the good news with everyone, and then by being the good news, living it out.
God blesses us to bless others. Every blessing we receive is not to be hoarded but shared, passed on.
Prayer:
Lord, help me be a blessing to everyone I meet. Let me be the good news. Help me share every good thing You have given me.
