He's waiting for you

Scripture: Numbers 10-11, Psalm 27, Mark 1

Psalm 27:8 My heart has heard you say, “Come talk with me.”  And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”

Mark 1:35 Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.

Observation/application

There are so many good things I could journal about in these chapters.  But this morning, these verses stood out after last night’s mentoring meeting.  We had a great discussion about The Divine Mentor, Wayne Cordeiro’s book about daily PBJ (time with God in prayer, Bible, journaling).  It reminded me again how essential this practice has been to my spiritual growth, my relationship with Jesus, and my ministry.  We make time to be with Jesus, to give Him a chance to speak to us, to sit and listen to Him—that’s what this is about.  It is not a legalistic requirement; it is the joy of getting to know Him.

Psalm 27:8 captures this joy.  God calls: “Come talk with me;” we answer eagerly: “Lord, I am coming.”  It is amazing that God wants to spend time with us.  When we imagine God waiting eagerly for us, wanting us to come and talk, it motivates us to want to come as well.  Imagine a friend saying, “I’ll meet you at Starbucks at 10; I can’t wait to see you and talk with you!”  Now imagine God saying that to you!

In Mark 1, it’s obvious how important this time with God was to Jesus.  He had been up late the night before teaching and healing.  He must have been exhausted, depleted.  Yet early in the morning, before sunrise, he got up and went away to meet with God.  Jesus is our example in everything, including this.  He made time with God a priority.

Prayer:

Lord, it still amazes me that you want to meet with me.  So here I am.  I am here to seek Your face, to hear Your voice, to know You better.  I love you.
