Jesus is Worthy

Scripture: Ezekiel 12-14, Revelation 5

Revelation 4:11 You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.

Revelation 5:9 You are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals and open it. For you were slaughtered, and your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. 10 And you have caused them to become a Kingdom of priests for our God. And they will reign on the earth.

Revelation 5:12 Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.

Observation/Application:

Jesus is worthy! He is worthy of all praise and honor and glory! He is worthy of our adoration and devotion and obedience and service! He is worthy!

He is worthy because He is creator; He is worthy because He is redeemer. In this passage, Jesus is given the honor and worship that is due to God alone because He does what only God can do: create and redeem. Jesus is God and is worthy of all praise.

This passage says that everyone and everything will sing His praise: the four living beings in the presence of God, the 24 elders, thousands and millions of angels, and “every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea.” Every created being will join in the song of praise; it will be “a mighty chorus”.

We join that chorus now with words and deeds of praise. Not just when we sing at church or home or in the car, but as we live our lives. “May my lifesong sing to you!”

Today, I want to live with an awareness of His greatness: He is worthy! I want to praise Him with my words and deeds; I want my life to be a song of praise that brings Him honor. I want to be as devoted as all these creatures who are falling before the Lamb and giving Him praise.

Prayer:

Lord, You are worthy! You are worthy of all my praise and worship and devotion. You are worthy of my entire life: my time, attention, energy, money, things—everything I am and have. Help me to be as “captured” by you here on earth as everyone in heaven already is!
