Me, Me, Me

Scripture: John 5-6

John 5:39–40You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

John 5:46 If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.

John 6:35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.

John 6:40 For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”

John 6:56–57 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.

John 6:65 He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him.”

Observation/application

Listen to the words of Jesus: the Scriptures testify about me, Moses wrote about me, come to me, believe in me, look to me, remain in me, feed on me, come to me, come to me, come to me (six times in these 2 chapters).  Me-me-me!  Jesus made Himself the issue.  If anyone else talked like this, we would think him arrogant and self-centered.  But not Jesus.  He is the Son of God and Son of Man, the Bread of Life, the One whom God sent, the One whom the Scriptures predicted.

Jesus made Himself the issue; we dare not change that.  It’s all about Jesus—about believing in Jesus, coming to Jesus, looking to Jesus, feeding on Jesus, remaining in Jesus.  I want to be a Jesus-person!  I want to be all about Jesus. Nothing else.

Prayer:

Jesus, help me be all about You.  Plain and simple.  Help me be a Jesus man.
